I love trying new brands of chalk paint. I have been making my own for about a year now using the Plaster of Paris recipe and I am very happy with it. I buy all sorts of paint brands including mis-tints at Lowes and Home Depot. Recently, I have also been using Sherwin Williams sample pots.
But it is nice to have some chalk paint that is ready to go out of the can, sometimes. I love Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint!! I am a huge fan of her color selection, consistency, ease of use, and quality, not of the price! If it were just for my personal use...I'd absolutely buy Annie Sloan's chalk paint. But not for my business, I just can't justify the cost or pass it on to my customers. The paint I make is high quality and equally as durable as the ASCP that is easily 5 times the cost! It just takes me a few extra steps to make my own, worth the cost savings in my opinion!
So...when I heard that a fellow blogger/boutique owner was having a sale on Maison Blanche Chalk Paint (she is switching brands due to availability and shipment time) 75% off!!! Yes, you read that right...$10 a quart! I had to try it. I drove up (about 1 hour away) with one of my favorite vendors from Secondhand Rose and we did some garage sell shopping while we were up there (Fair Oaks, Ca). I bought 4 different colors as well as the Organza Shimmer Coat & Glacage. Here's the color palette they offer. The colors that I picked based on what she had left were French Blue, Colette, Miel, & Baguette.
I do like the Maison Blanche color palette very much! I would compare the quality to that of American Paint Company. MB is not quite as thick and gritty, but it is definitely not as smooth as AS. I painted both pieces with 2 coats of MB, and it did not cover completely. It was ok with me, as I was going for a very shabby distressed look. If I wanted full coverage, it would have taken at least 3 coats with some touch up. It's a convenience issue for me. At $10/quart...I'd buy MB all day long. But not at their normal price of around $35-$40/quart. That's my opinion...take it for what it's worth. :)
I agree about the MB paint...it's decent paint just not worth $39 a quart. But for $10, we just HAD to make the trip to Sac! It was so much fun g-saling w/ you & Maddison :) You sure can pack an SUV, lol!

DeleteThanks for your honest opinions! I did one on waxes, and boy did it stir a hornet's nest :) I haven't tried MB, but have used the wax. Your dresser is beautiful! Love the two tone look these days. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy. I was a little hesitant to do it..but I would prefer to take some slack for being honest, then to get props for something I did not fully believe in. ;) I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment. I love the 2 tone lately too!
