The VERY Chippy (Miss Mustard Seed, Milk Paint) Nightstand

This is my 3rd time using MMS Milk Paint. I loved the way my first 2 pieces came out (Luckets Green Cupboard Door Cupboard Door and the Shutter Gray Chippy Buffet) so I decided to try Grain Sack...Still without the bonding agent. I am not usually a chippy kinda girl...and this piece is my personal nightstand (so not for sale). Seeing as I am changing my room around and doing a makeover, I wanted to see how I liked it.

So here come the pic's...I was scared at first, because it chipped way more than my other 2 pieces...it is a newer piece I bought a couple years ago at Marshall's, and was very shiny. I think that may be why it chipped so much.

this is what i started with...very nice piece, but i needed a change :)

and this is after 2 coats, letting the first on dry/chip and then lighty sanding to remove the flakes.

it chipped a lot!!!!

i mean...a lot!!!  eeek...i got a little nervous here.

but here she is in all her glory!  I absolutely love the way she came out...she's the first of many changes that are coming to our bedroom makeover!  More on that to come...

Thank you for taking the time to look at my nightstand/post.  I hope it helped you feel more comfortable with Milk Paint...now go get a piece of furniture and get to painting!

Plastic painted CHALK BOARD Easter eggs!!

Happy Tuesday...I have been busy doing lots of projects...I'll be sharing 4 of them with you this week.  I did a chippy nightstand for my bedroom, burlap carrots, and am starting a "Bedroom Make-Over" series that I will update as my bedroom design starts to come together.  I'll be sharing my bedroom before pictures with you this week.  ;)

And these painted plastic eggs...with chalkboard paint!!

So I was blog hopping this past weekend when I came across a post  on Daisy Mae Belle (wooden chalkboard painted eggs) about painting wooden Easter eggs with chalkboard spraypaint....but it got me thinking if plastic eggs would work. After all chalkboard paint is chalk paint...and chalk paint will stick to plastic.  I have liquid chalkboard paint...so it may adhere differently than the spray paint.

So, here's my series of pic's.  I think they speak for themselves...but if you want the tutorial for the spray painted wooden eggs, just click Daisy Mae Belle's link above.

Here' my plastic egg that I started with. I did quite a few, actually.

I used a can of Valspar Chalkboard paint that I have had for years.

Here's what they looked like after the first coat:

And after the 2nd coat...you could do 3 coats...but 2 was plenty for mine.

And here they are displayed with my music sheet covered/mod podge plastic eggs. Actually, I can't take the credit for the mod podge eggs...my 9year old daughter and a friend made them...how cute, huh?

Thank you stopping by...and have a great day.

My first feature! Woohoo! This Friday 3/29/13

Hello There and Happy Sunday!  I am sorry I haven't blogged in quite a few days. I have been busy buying, repairing, cleaning and painting some amazing pieces!  I did some huge markdowns at the shop and am switching up my style a little!  Don't worry...I'll still be whimsical and unique...but I will have a few more pieces that fit into the everyday home...more white, creams, grays, and blacks!  With a little splash of color here and there.

So...I checked my email this morning and got an email response from Maryann @ Domestically Speaking & Power of Paint. I submitted my Milk & Chalk Paint Buffet hoping for a feature, not ever dreaming that after a couple months of blogging...I would actually be featured on a popular blog!  But I am!!!  I love the buffet and I am very proud of it...but to be recognized by another artist/blogger is so amazing!

So, Thank you so much...I don't think I even have any readers...but in the off chance I do...please head over to Power of Paint and check out her blog as well as my feature this Friday, March 29th, 2013!!

Chippy Buffet

Here's a little vintage buffet I finished on Sunday! I found this piece on Craigslist and you can see from the before picture, it was that orange wood color and desperately needed some love!

This is my first time using MMS and ASCP on 1 piece...and I love how it came out. I totally mixed up my products and am very happy with the end result.

1. ASCP Old Ochre - 2 coats
2. MMS Shutter Grey- 2 coats
3. MMS Antiquing Wax
4. ASCP Clear Wax

I left the original hardware on and painted over them, then lightly distressed them.

BEFORE

After 2 coats of Old Ochre and 1 coat of MMS Shutter Grey

2nd coat of MMS Shutter Grey

After some antiquing wax and clear wax...and hand buffed out.

New pieces - deciding on colors.

I am so excited...I have 2 new vintage pieces my husband and son picked up for me today. I can't wait to get started on them! Sorry about the pictures, they are from the CL ads...I'll have better before ones that I'll show you...when I do the before and after.

I'd love to here any suggestions on colors or combination of colors!

I believe the first one is a vintage stereo cabinet from what I can find! It'd be perfect for a bathroom to hold linens, or a living room to showcase quilts.

The 2nd one is a secretary desk with a mirror and cabinet...it's got a lot going on.

I am thinking Paris Grey and Old Ochre from Annie Sloan! I might have a hard time letting these go...

His and Her Restoration

Well...we decided on a name for our business back in October 2012! It has been a busy few months!

Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint - 1st time!

Hello there and Happy Wednesday. So, I had the opportunity to take a 3 hour class on Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Fair Oaks at The Treasured Home. It was a wonderful class and the owner (Barbara) and her husband were wonderful. She gave us tons of tips

Before and After - Perfectly Purple Nightstand

I picked this nightstand up at a garage sale last Sunday. It had some issues on the top, but I could see that it was a sturdy solid wood piece. And I love the mesh doors and it has a power strip and extension cord built in to it! It was before its time! Henedron is the manufacture I believe.
